Our Strategy and Program

Where Are We? Our Place

God loves Memphis. We believed he’s called us to do the same.

In particular, our focus is Midtown/Downtown Memphis, where old and new, rust and renewal, cement and gardens, chaos and art, past and future, despair and hope meet. Thus our love for the community extends its beyond the surface into its fabric -- social, political, economic, and spiritual; in other words, we love Memphis’ body and soul.

We seek, therefore, to lovingly and winsomely be followers of Christ in our city, to love and serve our friends and neighbors, to share their joy and tears, their seasons of jazz or blues, and by providing for everyone a safe space to explore, expand, express, or exclude the claims of Christ.

What Do We Do? Redeemer’s Mind And Method

Redeemer exists to See, Nurture and Share. See and savor the beauty of our risen Christ in worship, Nurture God’s people into Christ’s beloved community, and Share in Christ’s redemptive mission by serving as Jesus’ hands, feet, and voice to Midtown/Downtown Memphis and, through Memphis, the world.

SEE

  • Worship of the Triune God is humanity’s highest honor.  Through our lives and practice, we see and savor his beauty through these practices
  • Weekly Public Corporate worship
  • Worship in small groups gatherings
  • One-on-one relationships that stir each other’s imaginations with the beauty and love of Christ
  • Special church-wide worship celebrations
  • Joining the global church and the church through the ages in re-enacting the life of Christ as we follow the church calendar in our worship liturgy.
  • Special prayer initiatives
  • Encouraging the practice of private worship in the lives of Redeemer’s Church Members. And, encouraging our people to see their engagement in all the aspects of life as an opportunity to worship God in everything.

NURTURE

  • God is love. Therefore, he is in his nature selfless and caring. Worship creates nurturers, or community.
  • Community Group Involvement – Safe, small groups to share life meet for 10-12 weeks from September-November and January-May each year.
  • Seasonal Spiritual Formation Classes – Provide deeper understanding of the faith and seek to promote maturity.
  • Introduction to Redeemer Course – For people curious about the historic Christian message as well as the particular vision and mission of Redeemer Church, and required of all potential members.
  • Children’s Ministry – Nursery care, children’s church, communicant’s classes, special children’s ministry activities, Christian education courses, and children’s outreach programming.
  • Youth Ministry – For Middle School and High School Youth – Redeemer invests heavily in our teens.
  • Ministry Team – Everyone is gifted to serve the Church. Our teams help us explore and express these gifts.
  • Church Socials and Parties help deepen friendships and familiarity.
  • Elder Shepherding and Pastoral Counseling is always available and always needed.

SHARE

  • Our Savior humbled himself to serve those who could not return the favor. We eagerly follow him.
  • Our City/World Serve Ministry Team mobilizes our church to serve at home and abroad by a variety of means.
  • We enthusiastically share our human and financial resources many of the wonderful non-profit ministry and cultural enrichment organizations operating in our city.
  • We support other like-minded efforts including church planting, justice/mercy ministry, cultural renewal, and campus ministries (here and abroad).
  • We love to host parties and socials for our friends and neighbors.
  • We offer “Considering/Re-considering Jesus” small group studies where people can feel free to wrestle honestly with issues of faith.
  • We seek to build fraternal church relationships, especially with churches in mid-town.
  • We dream. Someday, we long to establish the following:
  • A community counseling/therapy clinic
  • Support-group ministries for those struggling with addiction
  • Young Professionals Mid-Week Study/Fellowship/Outreach Gathering
  • A discipleship program equipping people to integrate their faith and work with the aim of promoting the common good in our city
  • A program ministering to artists inside and outside Redeemer
