Get Involved

How can I learn more about or deepen my involvement at Redeemer?

Join / Visit A Community Group

Community Groups are the backbone of the communal life of our church.  They are small, informal, easy-entry, non-threatening small groups which meet on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:30 pm at our church building.

You can show up and participate as much or as little as you would like!

Community Groups provide a venue to know more of Christ together, to love and care for one another mutually, and to enjoy life communally.

If you are interested in participating in a Community Group mail our Asst. Pastor Ben Winkler (ben@redeemermemphis.org).

Spiritual Formation Classes

Spiritual Formation classes meet seasonally (typically 6-8 weeks during the Fall and 6-8 weeks during Spring). Together we explore the balance of truth and grace by challenging our minds and hearts toward a deeper understanding of and walk with the Lord (doctrine + practice). Classes are available for adults and children.

If you are interested in participating in the Spiritual Formation class mail our Asst. Pastor. Ben Winkler (ben@redeemermemphis.org).

Children’s Ministry

We love our children and we will love your children. The following briefly lists opportunities for our little ones:

  • Sunday morning during worship, we provide nursery care for ages 0-3 and “children’s church” for children ages 4 through 2nd grade.
  • During Community Groups, we offer nursery care for ages 0-2 and children’s ministry programming for ages 3 through 5th grade.
  • We offer a 6-week communicant’s class for children twice a year. This class prepares children to publically profess their faith and begin taking weekly communion.  For those children who have not been baptized, the class is an opportunity to profess their faith, receive the mark of baptism, and begin taking weekly communion.
  • We have various social gatherings for our younger children throughout the year. We have plans to use our new building to offer summer activities for the children of Redeemer and the children in our broader Midtown/Downtown Memphis Community.

Sr. Minister (Jeffrey Lancaster) or Assistant Minister (Ben Winkler). We don’t bite! Instead, we cherish the opportunity to get to know new people and to entertain any and all questions about Redeemer’s Vision and Mission, the historic Christian faith, or any of life’s concerns.  We promise to treat you lovingly and respectfully and to do our best at struggling with you to find honest answers to honest questions.

Membership

  • First, we encourage you to hang out with us. There is never a rush to make such an important decision. When someone decides they want to officially be a part of our church…well, that’s when the process moves forward…
  • Second, if Redeemer is home, we encourage you to seek formal membership. To do so, attend the Intro to Redeemer Class (an 8-hour course that meets twice a year) to explore our beliefs, ministry, opportunities, and expectations.
  • Third, fill out a membership questionnaire and email the church office to set up an interview with one of our pastors. Have questions and concerns ready! Please email or ‘snail mail’ questionnaires.
  • Fourth, assuming you wish to join, we will meet together with our Session (usually on the day you join prior to worship).  Here, we take membership vows and you are received into Redeemer’s membership.  A time of public acknowledgment will follow in the worship service.
  • During this process we ask that you make us aware of whether or not you have been baptized.  If not, you will be baptized during the morning worship service in which you joined our church.
  • Also, if you have children who have not been baptized we would like to discuss the subject of infant baptism with you.

Depending on your church experience, this process may sound daunting. It is not. In fact, many testify how they grew in their faith and better understood the purpose and role of the church and their importance in it.  If you decide to join Redeemer Church we hope the membership process will be a positive ministry moment in your life.  We welcome input on how we might consider improving in this area.
